Presently incurable, Huntington disease (HD) is being studied like never before thanks to the incredible support of donors, researchers and volunteers so there is much hope that a world free of HD is a possibility. If you have participated in any of our chapter's events or purchased HD Dream Hockey Raffle tickets or an Amaryllis growing kit, thank-you for assisting in the HD research effort.
There is a long way to go until there are safe and effective things for humans to use but since HD is a mutation of one chromosome and a genetically-dominant disorder, that makes HD easier to study than other disorders in some ways.
Researchers believe that HD is the leading domino in a series including Parkinsons, Alzheimers, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and other diseases, and that knocking down HD will have a domino effect leading to great advances against many other disorders.
Clinical Trials: more research is being done in HD right now than ever but to pursue all of the new studies, 1500 new participants are needed in North America over the next year or so. Please help "fill the pipeline" with clinical trial participants!
Some studies are only for people with HD, others need family members, some need people who have and who have not been genetically tested for HD, so if you are reading this page, there is a good chance that you can help the HD research effort by participating in one (or more) studies.
Sign up at HDTrials.org to be notified by email about opportunities to participate in new HD research studies as they become available.
